Saint Michael the Archangel, Patron of Police Officers, Soldiers, and Protectors

Michael is one of only three archangels named in scripture, described in the Book of Revelation leading the heavenly armies against the dragon and casting him down to earth. His name, meaning "Who is like God," has functioned for centuries as both his identity and his battle cry against pride and evil. Catholic tradition holds him as the protector of the Church itself, and Pope Leo XIII composed the Saint Michael Prayer in 1886 specifically asking for his defense "against the wickedness and snares of the devil." He's invoked today as the formal patron of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics, along with soldiers and anyone whose work puts them between danger and the people they protect.
