Saint Christina the Astonishing, Patron Saint of Mental Illness and Mental Health Workers
Christina was born around 1150 in Brustem, Belgium, and orphaned as a young child, raised afterward by her two older sisters. At twenty-one, she experienced a severe episode so profound that those around her believed she had died, and her funeral Mass had already begun when she revived. She said she had been shown heaven, hell, and purgatory, and had chosen to return to earth rather than remain in heaven, believing she could offer her own suffering in prayer for souls still in purgatory. The years that followed were marked by behavior many around her found frightening and impossible to explain, and she often withdrew from other people entirely, seeking refuge in isolated, high places rather than remain among crowds. Some of her contemporaries believed she was possessed; others recognized in her a rare and difficult holiness they didn't fully understand either. She lived to seventy-four, far longer than anyone expected. Centuries later, the Church recognized her specifically as patron of those living with mental illness and the professionals who care for them, an unusually direct link between a saint's own extraordinary interior suffering and a modern audience who knows what it is to be misunderstood.
A Gift For...
- Anyone living with mental illness, anxiety, or a difficult diagnosis
- A therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, or mental health caregiver
- A family member supporting a loved one through mental illness
- A confirmation candidate who has felt profoundly misunderstood
- A Saint Christina's Day gift on July 24, for anyone doing the quiet work of healing, their own or someone else's
A Confirmation Gift for Christina
For a confirmation candidate who has felt genuinely misunderstood, by others or even by themselves, Christina offers something rare, a saint whose own difficult inner life became, eventually, the reason she's remembered with compassion rather than confusion. Engrave a name and confirmation date, and let that understanding carry the meaning.
The Saint Christina Medal
This medal depicts her seated peacefully in a tree, a place of refuge in her own story, her halo radiating outward. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface. The result has a depth and precision that printed medals don't achieve.
Personalization and Engraving
The optional engraving on the reverse is rendered in Tangerine cursive, two lines, up to 20 characters each. Many choose a name and a meaningful date, while others engrave "understood" or "not alone."
Saint Christina's feast day is July 24, and nearly eight hundred years after her death, she remains one of the very few saints whose own extraordinary, difficult story became the reason the Church later chose her, specifically, to stand beside anyone carrying a mental illness others struggle to see.

FAQ
How long does production take?
Each medal is made to order in the USA. Production takes 5-6 business days before shipping. If you need it for a birthday, confirmation, or any specific occasion, order at least two weeks in advance to be safe.
What does the engraving look like?
The reverse is engraved in Tangerine cursive — an elegant, flowing script. You get two lines, up to 20 characters each. Names, dates, short quotes. The engraving is laser-etched directly into the metal, not printed.
Is the chain included?
Yes. Every medal ships on an 18-22" adjustable snake chain in the same finish as the medal - stainless steel or 18k gold. No need to source a chain separately.
Are the medals hypoallergenic?
Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.
How durable is the coating?
Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.
What's your return policy on engraved orders?
Because every medal is custom-made to order, engraved pieces cannot be returned unless there's a defect or error on our part. If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us and we'll make it right.
