Saint Andrew, Patron Saint of Scotland and Fishermen
Andrew was a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee and the brother of Simon Peter, and tradition holds he was the first of the twelve apostles called by Jesus. After the Crucifixion, he's said to have preached throughout Greece and along the Black Sea coast, and was martyred in Patras on an X-shaped cross, which he requested because he felt unworthy to die on the same type of cross as Christ. Centuries later, a vision of that same X-shaped cross appearing in the sky before a battle is credited with making him patron of Scotland, and the cross became the design of the Scottish flag. He's also patron of fishermen, Greece, and Russia.

The medal shows Andrew haloed, fishing rod in hand, pulling a fish from the water, referencing his life before he became an apostle. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface. The result has a depth and precision that printed medals don't achieve.

Yes. Every medal ships on an 18-22" adjustable snake chain in the same finish as the medal - stainless steel or 18k gold. No need to source a chain separately.
Are the medals hypoallergenic?
Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.
How durable is the coating?
Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.
