Saint Adjutor, Patron Saint of Swimmers, Boaters and Water Safety
Adjutor was a French knight from Vernon who fought in the First Crusade and was captured by Muslim forces demanding he renounce his faith. Rather than convert, he escaped by swimming back across open water to France. He later entered religious life as a recluse at the Abbey of Trion, and became known for calming a dangerous whirlpool on the Seine by throwing his old captivity chains into it and making the sign of the cross. He died in 1131 and is honored today as patron of swimmers, boaters, and drowning victims, along with his hometown of Vernon.

The medal shows Adjutor in knight's armor, haloed, casting broken chains into a swirling whirlpool at his feet. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface. The result has a depth and precision that printed medals don't achieve.

Saint Adjutor's feast day is April 30th. Nearly nine hundred years later, the whirlpool he's said to have calmed is still part of local memory in Vernon, the town that claims him as its own.

Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.
How durable is the coating?
Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.
