Saint Zita of Lucca, Patron Saint of Domestic Workers and Homemakers

Zita was born around 1212 near Lucca, Italy, and began working as a household servant for the Fatinelli family at age twelve, a position she held for the rest of her life. Her fellow servants mocked her early piety as performance, but her quiet consistency won them over, and she was eventually put in charge of running the household's almsgiving to the poor. She's remembered for the story of loaves that appeared already baked in her kneading trough, commonly attributed to angels finishing the work she'd left undone while tending to someone in need. She died in 1272 at age sixty, having spent her entire adult life in service to one family, and her body is preserved incorrupt in the Basilica of San Frediano in Lucca to this day.
