Saint Vitus, Patron Saint of Dancers and Performers

Vitus was the son of a Sicilian senator, converted to Christianity as a young boy by his tutor Modestus and his nurse Crescentia, against his own father's wishes. When his father discovered the conversion, he had all three arrested and tortured, but they escaped and fled, eventually reaching Rome, where Vitus was credited with curing the emperor's son of a serious illness. Rather than earning him favor, the healing was blamed on sorcery, and Vitus was martyred around the age of twelve. Centuries later in medieval Germany, people took to dancing before his statue on his feast day, believing it would grant a year of good health. That practice grew so widespread that a nervous disorder causing involuntary, dance-like movements was named St. Vitus's Dance in his honor, and it cemented his place as the patron saint of dancers, actors, and entertainers of every kind.

A Gift For...

  • A dancer, actor, performer, or anyone who lives for the stage
  • Someone starting dance training, an audition, or a first performance
  • A confirmation candidate who expresses their faith through movement or performance
  • Anyone who needs a reminder that joy itself can be a form of devotion
  • Someone managing epilepsy or a nervous system condition, a patronage tied directly to his story
  • A Saint Vitus's Day gift on June 15, for any dancer or performer in your life

A Confirmation Gift

For a confirmation candidate who moves through the world with rhythm, not just words, Vitus is a rare match. Engrave a name and confirmation date, and let his own legend, caught dancing even in captivity, carry the meaning.

The Saint Vitus Medal

This medal depicts him mid-motion, robes swept up in a dancer's pose, a rooster beside him, the mark of the sacrifice made alongside him at his martyrdom, his halo radiating outward. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface. The result has a depth and precision that printed medals don't achieve.

Personalization and Engraving

The optional engraving on the reverse is rendered in Tangerine cursive, two lines, up to 20 characters each. Many choose a name and a performance or audition date, while others simply engrave "dance."

Saint Vitus's feast day is June 15, and nearly a thousand years after his death, an entire medical condition still carries his name, a strange kind of immortality earned by a boy who reportedly danced even when no one thought he had reason to.

The Metal Is the Image

Unlike stamped or printed medals, our black ink artwork is applied directly onto the surface, so every bright line in the illustration is the metal itself shining through, with detail no stamped medal can hold.

Hand-Poured Seal

Sealed with a durable, crystal-clear liquid glass coating to protect the vibrant image for a lifetime.

Exclusive Artwork

Custom-illustrated in-house, ensuring every saint's depiction is completely unique to our store.

FAQ

How long does production take?

Each medal is made to order in the USA. Production takes 5-6 business days before shipping. If you need it for a birthday, confirmation, or any specific occasion, order at least two weeks in advance to be safe.

What does the engraving look like?

The reverse is engraved in Tangerine cursive — an elegant, flowing script. You get two lines, up to 20 characters each. Names, dates, short quotes. The engraving is laser-etched directly into the metal, not printed.

Is the chain included?

Yes. Every medal ships on an 18-22" adjustable snake chain in the same finish as the medal - stainless steel or 18k gold. No need to source a chain separately.

Are the medals hypoallergenic?

Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.

How durable is the coating?

Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.

What's your return policy on engraved orders?

Because every medal is custom-made to order, engraved pieces cannot be returned unless there's a defect or error on our part. If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us and we'll make it right.
