Saint Scholastica, Patron Saint of Nuns, Students, and Protection from Storms

Scholastica was born around 480 in Nursia, Italy, the twin sister of Benedict of Nursia, who would go on to found Western monasticism itself. She consecrated her life to God from a young age and eventually founded a convent near her brother's monastery at Monte Cassino, becoming, by tradition, the first Benedictine nun. Once a year, siblings met to spend a day in spiritual conversation. During what would be their final visit, Scholastica begged Benedict to stay through the night so they could keep talking about the things of God. He refused, citing his own rule that monks not sleep outside the monastery. She bowed her head in prayer instead of arguing further, and a storm broke so violently that Benedict couldn't leave even if he'd wanted to. "I asked you, and you would not listen," she told him. "So I asked my God, and he did listen." They spent the night talking. Three days later, from his cell, Benedict saw his sister's soul rising to heaven in the form of a white dove. He had her buried in the tomb he'd built for himself, and the two siblings rest there together to this day.

A Gift For...

  • A nun, religious sister, or anyone discerning religious life
  • A student facing exams, finals, or a big academic milestone
  • Anyone who has asked, and been granted, just a little more time with someone they love
  • A confirmation candidate drawn to a saint who valued conversation and connection over rules
  • A Saint Scholastica's Day gift on February 10, for any student, sister, or twin in your life

Confirmation Gift

For a confirmation candidate who values deep conversation and genuine connection, Scholastica offers a gentle, relatable match. Engrave a name and confirmation date, and let her story about asking for one more night speak for itself.

The Saint Scholastica Medal

This medal depicts her in her habit, a crozier in one hand and a dove near the other, a rosary at her waist, her halo radiating outward. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface. The result has a depth and precision that printed medals don't achieve.

Personalization and Engraving

The optional engraving on the reverse is rendered in Tangerine cursive, two lines, up to 20 characters each. Many choose a name and confirmation date, while others engrave "just a little longer" or simply her name alone.

Saint Scholastica's feast day is February 10, and she and her twin brother Benedict remain buried together at Monte Cassino to this day, the same tomb he'd originally built for himself alone.

The Metal Is the Image

Unlike stamped or printed medals, our black ink artwork is applied directly onto the surface, so every bright line in the illustration is the metal itself shining through, with detail no stamped medal can hold.

Hand-Poured Seal

Sealed with a durable, crystal-clear liquid glass coating to protect the vibrant image for a lifetime.

Exclusive Artwork

Custom-illustrated in-house, ensuring every saint's depiction is completely unique to our store.

FAQ

How long does production take?

Each medal is made to order in the USA. Production takes 5-6 business days before shipping. If you need it for a birthday, confirmation, or any specific occasion, order at least two weeks in advance to be safe.

What does the engraving look like?

The reverse is engraved in Tangerine cursive — an elegant, flowing script. You get two lines, up to 20 characters each. Names, dates, short quotes. The engraving is laser-etched directly into the metal, not printed.

Is the chain included?

Yes. Every medal ships on an 18-22" adjustable snake chain in the same finish as the medal - stainless steel or 18k gold. No need to source a chain separately.

Are the medals hypoallergenic?

Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.

How durable is the coating?

Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.

What's your return policy on engraved orders?

Because every medal is custom-made to order, engraved pieces cannot be returned unless there's a defect or error on our part. If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us and we'll make it right.
