Saint Rose of Lima, Rosa de Lima
Isabel Flores de Oliva was born in Lima in 1586, the daughter of a Spanish soldier and a Peruvian woman of partially indigenous descent. Her mother called her Rosa for the beauty of her face as an infant, and the name stayed. She became the first person born in the Americas ever canonized by the Catholic Church. She joined the Third Order of Saint Dominic at 20, living in a small hermitage in her family's garden, where she ran an infirmary caring for sick children, the elderly, and enslaved people at a time when no one else in colonial Lima was doing this systematically. She was also mocked for her piety during her lifetime, including by her own family. She died in 1617 at 31. Her funeral drew crowds so large that her burial had to be delayed for days.
A Gift For...
- A confirmation or quinceañera gift for a girl of Latin American heritage
- Anyone named Rosa, Rosario, or any variant of her name
- Someone who feels mocked or isolated for taking their faith seriously
- A godparent looking for a gift with real cultural and family weight
- A Saint Rose of Lima's Day gift, celebrated August 23 universally and August 30 in Peru
- Anyone who wants to carry beauty on the outside while bearing something hard underneath
A Confirmation Gift for Rose
A godparent choosing Rose is usually choosing more than a saint, they're choosing a direct line to Latin American Catholic identity for the girl receiving her. Name and date, engraved on the back, is all it takes.
The Saint Rose of Lima Medal
This medal depicts her facing forward, eyes closed, wearing her crown of roses, holding a crucifix with both hands, roses framing the base of the composition. The crown references both her name and her most famous act of private devotion. She wore a heavy silver crown of thorns hidden entirely beneath a wreath of roses, bearing the pain of Christ in secret while presenting only beauty to the world. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface.
Personalization and Engraving
The optional engraving on the reverse is rendered in Tangerine cursive. Two lines, up to 20 characters each. Her most recognized words fit across two lines: "Apart from the" and "cross, no hope."
Saint Rose of Lima's feast day is August 23 in the universal Church, and August 30 in her native Peru, where it remains a national holiday, marked with processions and celebrations that have continued uninterrupted for over 350 years.
Unlike stamped or printed medals, our black ink artwork is applied directly onto the surface, so every bright line in the illustration is the metal itself shining through, with detail no stamped medal can hold.
Sealed with a durable, crystal-clear liquid glass coating to protect the vibrant image for a lifetime.
Custom-illustrated in-house, ensuring every saint's depiction is completely unique to our store.
Carefully assembled, sealed, and custom-engraved to order right here in the United States.
FAQ
How long does production take?
Each medal is made to order in the USA. Production takes 5-6 business days before shipping. If you need it for a birthday, confirmation, or any specific occasion, order at least two weeks in advance to be safe.
What does the engraving look like?
The reverse is engraved in Tangerine cursive — an elegant, flowing script. You get two lines, up to 20 characters each. Names, dates, short quotes. The engraving is laser-etched directly into the metal, not printed.
Is the chain included?
Yes. Every medal ships on an 18-22" adjustable snake chain in the same finish as the medal - stainless steel or 18k gold. No need to source a chain separately.
Are the medals hypoallergenic?
Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.
How durable is the coating?
Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.
What's your return policy on engraved orders?
Because every medal is custom-made to order, engraved pieces cannot be returned unless there's a defect or error on our part. If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us and we'll make it right.
