Saint Mary of Egypt Patron Saint of Penitents & Recovery

Mary lived a life in Alexandria that she herself later described as given over entirely to sin. In her late twenties, she traveled to Jerusalem, and at the door of a church, something stopped her cold, she felt she could not cross the threshold. In that moment, she turned to a small icon of the Virgin Mary nearby and made a vow, if she were allowed to enter and see the relic of the true cross inside, she would leave her old life behind completely. She was allowed in. She kept her word. She walked into the desert beyond the Jordan River and lived there alone for the next forty-seven years, in prayer and fasting, until her death. A monk named Zosimas found her near the end of her life, and it's through his account that her story survived.

A Gift For...

  • Anyone starting over completely, no matter how far gone things felt
  • A person in recovery, or marking a sobriety milestone
  • Someone who made one decision that changed the entire direction of their life
  • A convert, or anyone recently returned to their faith
  • A confirmation gift for someone who wants a saint who understands total transformation
  • Anyone who needs proof that no one is too far gone to begin again

A Confirmation Gift for Mary

For a confirmation candidate whose faith was born from one turning point rather than a gradual path, Mary of Egypt is a rare and powerful match. Engrave a name and the date, and let the story do the rest.

The Saint Mary of Egypt Medal

This medal depicts Mary in old age, weathered by decades alone in the desert, holding a cross against her chest, a halo marking the holiness she found in total solitude. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface.

Personalization and Engraving

The optional engraving on the reverse is rendered in Tangerine cursive. Two lines, up to 20 characters each. Most people engrave a name, a sobriety date, or the date of a personal turning point.

Saint Mary of Egypt's feast day is April 1 in the Western Church, and the fifth Sunday of Lent in the Eastern tradition. Both mark the same thing, a woman who turned completely away from one life and never looked back.

The Metal Is the Image

Unlike stamped or printed medals, our black ink artwork is applied directly onto the surface, so every bright line in the illustration is the metal itself shining through, with detail no stamped medal can hold.

Hand-Poured Seal

Sealed with a durable, crystal-clear liquid glass coating to protect the vibrant image for a lifetime.

Exclusive Artwork

Custom-illustrated in-house, ensuring every saint's depiction is completely unique to our store.

FAQ

How long does production take?

Each medal is made to order in the USA. Production takes 5-6 business days before shipping. If you need it for a birthday, confirmation, or any specific occasion, order at least two weeks in advance to be safe.

What does the engraving look like?

The reverse is engraved in Tangerine cursive — an elegant, flowing script. You get two lines, up to 20 characters each. Names, dates, short quotes. The engraving is laser-etched directly into the metal, not printed.

Is the chain included?

Yes. Every medal ships on an 18-22" adjustable snake chain in the same finish as the medal - stainless steel or 18k gold. No need to source a chain separately.

Are the medals hypoallergenic?

Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.

How durable is the coating?

Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.

What's your return policy on engraved orders?

Because every medal is custom-made to order, engraved pieces cannot be returned unless there's a defect or error on our part. If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us and we'll make it right.
