She made the second explicit confession of Christ's divinity in the Bible, yet history only remembers her for being busy in the kitchen. Saint Martha of Bethany, Patron Saint of Cooks and Hospitality

Martha appears three times in the Gospels, and each time she is doing something. She hosts Jesus in her home while her sister Mary sits and listens. She walks out to meet him on the road after her brother Lazarus dies, before Mary has even left the house, and tells him her brother is dead. When Jesus says, "I am the resurrection and the life. Do you believe this?" she answers, "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God," the second explicit confession of Christ's divinity in the New Testament, after Peter's. It tends to get overlooked because it comes right after a scene where she was gently corrected for being too busy, a framing that has followed her for two thousand years and doesn't do her justice. Tradition holds that after the Ascension, she was set adrift on a ship without sails or oars and landed in Provence, where she spent the rest of her life preaching and settled near Tarascon, where her relics remain today.

  • Anyone named Martha, for a birthday or personal milestone

A Confirmation Gift for Martha

Engrave a name and confirmation date on the back. Martha suits a young woman whose faith shows up in what she does for other people, not just in what she says.

The Saint Martha of Bethany Medal

This medal depicts Martha standing full figure, facing left, mid movement, wearing a veil and long robes, a broom in one hand and a water jug in the other. She is shown in motion, carrying something, going somewhere, one of the few full figure medals in the catalog that shows its subject actively working rather than standing in a formal pose, a distinction that matters for Martha specifically. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself. Black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface.

Personalization and Engraving

The optional engraving on the reverse is rendered in Tangerine cursive. Two lines, up to 20 characters each. Two lines that fit: "She served with" and "her whole heart." For a gift to a cook, homemaker, or hospitality worker, most people engrave the recipient's name and a significant date.

Saint Martha of Bethany's feast day is July 29. The Gospel names her specifically among those Jesus loved, one of very few people described that way in Scripture, and she spent her life making sure everyone around her was fed, housed, and cared for.

The Metal Is the Image

Unlike stamped or printed medals, our black ink artwork is applied directly onto the surface, so every bright line in the illustration is the metal itself shining through, with detail no stamped medal can hold.

Hand-Poured Seal

Sealed with a durable, crystal-clear liquid glass coating to protect the vibrant image for a lifetime.

FAQ

How long does production take?

Each medal is made to order in the USA. Production takes 5-6 business days before shipping. If you need it for a birthday, confirmation, or any specific occasion, order at least two weeks in advance to be safe.

What does the engraving look like?

The reverse is engraved in Tangerine cursive — an elegant, flowing script. You get two lines, up to 20 characters each. Names, dates, short quotes. The engraving is laser-etched directly into the metal, not printed.

Is the chain included?

Yes. Every medal ships on an 18-22" adjustable snake chain in the same finish as the medal - stainless steel or 18k gold. No need to source a chain separately.

Are the medals hypoallergenic?

Yes. Both options are made from medical-grade 316 stainless steel. The 18k gold finish is applied over that same 316 stainless steel base. Safe for sensitive skin.

How durable is the coating?

Each medal is hand-sealed with a shatterproof liquid glass coating poured directly over the surface. It protects the artwork from scratches and moisture without dulling the detail or altering the color. It's designed to be worn daily, not kept in a drawer.

What's your return policy on engraved orders?

Because every medal is custom-made to order, engraved pieces cannot be returned unless there's a defect or error on our part. If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, contact us and we'll make it right.
