Saint Beatrice da Silva, Foundress of the Immaculate Conception
Beatrice was a Portuguese noblewoman, sister to the reformer Amadeus of Portugal, who served in the royal courts of both Portugal and Castile. While attending Queen Isabella of Castile, her beauty is said to have provoked the queen's jealousy, and she was imprisoned in a small cell. There she experienced a vision of the Virgin Mary instructing her to found a new religious order in Mary's honor. She escaped, took refuge in a Dominican monastery, and in 1484 founded the Monastery of the Holy Faith in Toledo, which grew into the Order of the Immaculate Conception, still active today. She was canonized in 1976. She has no broad occupational patronage; her identity is tied directly to the order and devotion she founded.
