About Carlo Acutis

Carlo Acutis was born in London in 1991 and grew up in Milan. He was a normal teenager by almost every measure - he played video games, owned a cat named Cleopatra, had friends, went to school. He was also, by the accounts of everyone who knew him, unusually serious about his faith for someone his age. He went to Mass and Eucharistic adoration every day. He said the rosary. He told his friends that the Eucharist was his highway to heaven.

He taught himself to code and built a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles from around the world - documented instances of the consecrated host displaying physical phenomena that science could not explain. He traveled to photograph the evidence himself. The website is still online.

He was diagnosed with leukemia in October 2006 and died three days later at age 15. His last recorded words included the offer of his suffering for the Pope and for the Church.

He was beatified by Pope Francis in October 2020 in Assisi, where his body rests incorrupt in the Sanctuary of the Spoliation. He was canonized on April 27, 2025 - the first millennial to be declared a saint by the Catholic Church.

Pope Francis named him the patron saint of the internet.

His Patronage

Carlo Acutis is the patron saint of the internet, of young people, and of those who use technology in service of faith. He is sought by teenagers and young adults navigating their faith in a digital world, by parents praying for children who seem far from God, and by anyone who works in technology and wants a patron saint who understood what that world actually looks like from the inside.

He is also sought by families who have lost a child. He died at 15. His parents have spoken publicly about their faith in the years since his death. People who carry his medal in grief for a young person are carrying something that his own parents understand.

The Carlo Acutis Medal

This medal depicts him as he actually was; a young man in contemporary clothing, holding a crucifix, his expression calm and direct. He is the only saint in the Sanctum Medals catalog depicted in modern dress, because he is the only saint in the catalog who lived in the modern world. The roses filling the background connect to his deep Marian devotion, which he maintained quietly alongside his ordinary teenage life. The natural gold or silver of the metal forms the illustration itself - black ink is applied to the pendant surface and the metal shows through as the image. A shatterproof liquid glass coating seals the surface.

Personalization and Engraving

The optional engraving on the reverse is rendered in Tangerine cursive. Two lines, up to 20 characters each. Carlo Acutis left behind several well-documented lines. Two that fit:

Line 1: "To the heights"
Line 2: "with God."

For a young person's confirmation or baptism gift, most people engrave the recipient's name and the date.
