Albert was the one who recognized what Thomas was capable of, and after Thomas's early death, Albert traveled to Paris himself to defend his former student's writing against those who wanted it condemned. Albert served briefly as Bishop of Regensburg before resigning to return to teaching and writing, producing work across nearly forty volumes before his death in 1280. He was canonized and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1931.
